A new single-track bridge has been erected on the ''down'' side of the line, adjacent to the existing span and in line with the signal box. As can be seen below, it is resting on a temporary framework. © Roger Goodrum

A view from Fort Pitt Hill shows the island platform of the new station taking shape. The signal box was scheduled to close in 2015 and at the time of the photograph, it seemed that it would have to be demolished very soon after, for it formed an obstruction to the new track bed. © David Glasspool
