Newly-laid double-track for the Crossrail line is evident between the tunnel portal approaches at Plumstead, a distance of about half a mile. This can be seen terminating on the right within its own fenced-off compound. The ''kink'' of the North Kent Line, formed to accommodate the new tracks, is again evident. © David Glasspool
Class 465 No. 465242 is seen forming the front half of a Cannon Street service, as it negotiates the curve in the new alignment. The Crossrail tracks are segregated from those of the North Kent Line by a fence for the entire distance to the tunnel portal. A catenary mast for the overhead wires is already evident. © David Glasspool
The entrance to Plumstead Tunnel can just be seen in the background of this westward view. The footbridge in view, complete with ramps, came into use earlier in the year, replacing a previous structure which did not offer a step-free course across the line. © David Glasspool
A westward view from the new footbridge shows that the original platform 1 has gone out of use and the track alignment slewed southwards. A section of the new V-shaped canopy was already up. © Tom Burnham
