A westward view shows Herne Hill and Catford Loop routes converging from the left and right respectively. Brixton signal tower, as described in the main text, was formerly positioned immediately beyond the bridge over the high street, on the left-hand side. © David Glasspool

A second eastward view of the Herne Hill platforms better shows the substantial station building on the left, which rises high up from ground level, within the fork of the junction. The ridge-and-furrow roof of the original LC&DR canopy is concealed by the valance. On the right, we also see the third, and final, bronze sculpture. © David Glasspool

A pair of giant multicoloured murals now dominate the station's huge stairwell; the second is on the opposite wall. The ticket office can be found at platform level. On the right-hand side wall can be seen a familiar design of LC&DR window frame: identical examples can be found on those station structures between Maidstone East and Ashford. © David Glasspool
