Erith

The leafy environs of summer make it hard to believe that the station is located within a sprawling industrial suburb of South East London. Another north westward view from the road bridge shows the station not long before restoration began. The "down" platform (right) had gained a glazed shelter and the station was wearing the red colour scheme of BR business sector "Network SouthEast". © David Glasspool Collection

The facade of the main building is seen after the comprehensive restoration completed in 1994. The SR’s single-storey addition has gone, as have the upper and lower extensions made under SE&CR auspices. The style of the building is as per that still in existence at Gravesend, the latter also a product of Beazley. The SE&CR’s "down" timber structure had also gone as part of the renovation work and, as can be seen on the left here, the platform canopy cut back to the limit of the main building. © David Glasspool

The "up" platform has been fortunate to retain this splendid SER canopy, complete with decorative spiked valance and timber windbreak to its rear. The SR’s plain style of valance at the canopy’s Dartford end indicates that the structure was shortened during works in the late 1930s. © David Glasspool

Looking towards Dartford from the "up" platform, it is evident that the footbridge is shorn of its glazing, this having been removed as part of the restoration project completed in 1994. On the left is the prefabricated concrete extension of the "down" platform that dates from 1956. The track foot crossing had long gone, but gaps in the conductor rails to accommodate it were still present. © David Glasspool
