At the time of writing (February 2021), Folkestone East signal box is very much operational. At the bottom of the cliff between Folkestone and Dover there exists a fence protecting the line; along this fence is a wire which, if broken (i.e. due to rock fall), automatically switches all signals to danger. Your author has word that it is still possible to switch control of the signalling over to an emergency panel in the signal box at Dover Priory. © Maidstone Man
