4-CIG No. 1856 is seen departing platform 3 southbound; the head code suggests that this is a terminating service from London Bridge. However, after departure, No. 1856 did not enter the sidings south of the station, based on one of your author's other photographs. The departure indicator board upon the platform suggests this is actually the 13:24 service to Horsham, departing three minutes late. In the background, amongst a sea of bridges, can be seen a Class 460 Gatwick Express unit arriving from London at platform 2. © David Glasspool
A motley collection of structures form the backdrop of this view depicting Class 460 No. 460003 awaiting departure from platform 1 with the non-stop shuttle to Victoria. As per some of the carriage sets of the 1984 stock, a number of the Class 460 units sported vinyl overlays promoting "Continental Airlines". This brand disappeared in 2012, after the company merged with "United Airlines". © David Glasspool
A four-car Class 221 "Voyager" is seen departing southwards from Gatwick Airport, forming a cross-country service from Manchester Piccadilly to Brighton. Until 2002, this working was formed of BR MK 2 air-conditioned stock hauled by a Class 47 diesel. © David Glasspool
