On the last weekend before the station reopened, the island platform was nearing completion: the canopy was up and most of the metal railings lining the surface's southern edge had been fitted. The third footbridge staircase and lift shaft had also been assembled and work was progressing on the surrounding brickwork. Click the above for a larger version. © David Glasspool

Platform 1 and the island are linked at their eastern ends behind the bay line, thus fully enclosing the track. ''Networker'' style buffer stops were in place on the bay line, just short of the platform's end. © David Glasspool

The gap in the original ''up'' side canopy, where the lattice footbridge once emerged, had been bridged by timber beams, but roof cladding and a valance had yet to be added. Television screens for driver-only-operation services are evident on the island, to the bottom left of the picture. © David Glasspool

In the foreground of this view is the eastern extension of the ''down'' platform. The railings being employed here match the attractive design of those which line long sections of the station's perimeter. © David Glasspool
