The old "down" side building was in a sorry state by mid-April: the platform canopy had completely disappeared, demolition of the far wall had begun, and the roof line was being dismantled. The small pitched-roof storeroom on the right would survive, however, and had received a new slate roof. © David Glasspool

At the end of its public use, the subway was by this time a gloomy affair. Subways were common at those SER stations which were built upon embankments, nearby Northfleet existing as an example. © David Glasspool

The original entrance via the steps is now closed off to permit demolition of the 1849 buildings, leaving the access point midway along the ''down'' platform as the sole entranceway. © David Glasspool
