A sparkling diesel shunter, Class 09 No. 09006, is seen at the buffers of ''B'' Shunt Neck at the west end of the ''up'' yard. The flat-wagons are carrying rows of new concrete sleepers. The three-aspect colour light and 15 MPH sign apply to the connection with the North Kent Line, the former of which can be seen in front of the signal post. © David Glasspool

Although the ''Down'' Yard looked somewhat rationalised at this point in time, there was still an interesting array of motive power in evidence. Four Electro-Diesels, three bearing the GBRf colours and a fourth displaying the ''classic'' Gatwick Express livery (a modified InterCity scheme), flank Class 66 No. 66708. In the background, on the right, Class 60 No. 60063 wearing two-tone ''Transrail'' livery, can just be seen getting in on the act. © David Glasspool

This splendidly-restored bridge is positioned at the northern end of the marshalling yard and carries the branch to Grain over Canal Road. The span here is able to accommodate two tracks, although just one is in use. © David Glasspool
