A northward view shows the North Sydney business district rising up. A concerted effort to develop this area with skyscrapers, business and residential, was begun in the late 1960s and included building over the railway tracks. North Sydney station is about ⅓-mile distant. © David Glasspool

A ''Waratah'' unit is seen embarking on Sydney Harbour Bridge's northern approach: next stop Wynyard. The bridge comprises 50,300 tons of steel and although originally estimated to cost £5,000,000 to build, the financial outlay increased to £9,900,000.  © David Glasspool

The elevated nature of the station can be appreciated in this view, which shows the western entrance to the concourse. In spite of the closure of the second island platform as long ago as 1958, the station is still accessible from the eastern side of the bridge's approaches. © David Glasspool
