By the time of this southward view, the shell of the "up" side station building was largely complete, but there was still much work to do at the site. © Roger Goodrum

The new station is a purely functional design, both at street and platform levels. At least a glazed facade will permit as much natural light as possible into the booking hall. © Roger Goodrum

A London-bound view shows elongated waiting shelters on the "up" platform; thankfully, standard canopies have also been installed on both sides. The station has been built with three platform faces, but due to re-signalling delays, the eastern face of the "down" island will not come into use until next year. © Roger Goodrum

On the opposite side of the railway embankment to the station entrance, the outline of a multi-storey car park has emerged. This will compensate for those car parking spaces lost to the new station development adjacent to "Corporation Street", but it will not be finished until April 2016. © Roger Goodrum
