This 27th July 2005 view towards Halling reveals the 1858 station building, the 1930s concrete platform sides and a single semaphore signal arm. The main span of the footbridge is evidently built to a standard length - the staircase on the left has to deviate to remain on the platform. © David Glasspool

The gates were still manually worked when seen on 27th July 2005 and the signal box with SER-sash windows still displayed a Network SouthEast name board. The signal arm is of interest here: it has been truncated to accommodate the footbridge. © David Glasspool

In the background of this Strood-bound view from 27th July 2005 is the Medway Bridge carrying the Channel Tunnel Rail Link. In the middle distance is a semaphore signal bracket, whilst in the immediate foreground is a delightful pair of semaphore signal arms - the upper is a ''home'' arm, the lower a ''distant''. Note above the ''S'' sign a redundant semaphore post: the arm of this formerly controlled the 1961-installed electrified freight loop. © David Glasspool
