34077

The third rail is evident in this 1960 shot, showing No. 34077 ''603 Squadron'' heading along Folkestone Warren with a ''down'' express. The train will soon plunge into Abbotscliffe Tunnel, 1942 yards in length. No. 34077 was allocated to Stewarts Lane, but after completion of the Kent Coast Electrification Scheme, was transferred to the South Western Division to work Waterloo to Bournemouth/Weymouth expresses. The engine was withdrawn in March 1967 after a career spanning nearly two decades. No. 34077 had entered service in July 1948 and was rebuilt in July 1960, immediately before the above picture was taken. © David Glasspool Collection

34082

On 6th July 1961, No. 34082 "615 Squadron" is seen standing in front of the offices at Eastleigh Works. The locomotive had been in its rebuilt form since April of the previous year. No. 34082 was withdrawn from service in April 1966. © David Glasspool Collection

34087

No. 34087 ''145 Squadron'' was seen with a makeshift smoke box number plate and was minus nameplates, but externally the engine looked in sound condition. The view is at Eastleigh, and on the left can be seen a withdrawn BR Standard 2-6-0, piston rods already removed. No. 34087 survived right until the end of steam on the South Western Division, being withdrawn in July 1967. © David Glasspool Collection

34089

No. 34089 ''602 Squadron'' is seen at Salisbury in June 1967, devoid of nameplates and alongside ''C'' box, a former GWR cabin which came under SR control in 1950. Entering traffic in December 1948, No. 34089 was rebuilt in November 1960 and survived right to the end of SR steam in July 1967. It was eventually scrapped at Cashmore's, Newport, South Wales, in 1968. © David Glasspool Collection
