Class 66

South Eastern Division

No. 66711 at Hoo Junction

Although motive power variety has been reduced drastically since EWS pioneered with the class

from 1998 onwards, March 2001 saw a welcome relief from the monotonous maroon and yellow

livery as seven Class 66/7s were delivered to Willesden after being shipped over from General

Motors in Canada. A regular South Eastern Division working for the Peterborough-allocated GBRf

Class 66 fleet has been that of the West Burton to Mountfield containerised gypsum, travelling via

Tunbridge Wells Central and Redhill. More recently, a number of the GBRf-branded class have

appeared on the North Kent Line running Hither Green to Hoo Junction infrastructure trains.

No. 66711 is seen stabled in Hoo Junction down yard on 29th July 2004. David Glasspool

No. 66714 stabled in Tonbridge West Yard

No. 66714 ''Cromer Lifeboat'' was another interesting sight on 31st May 2004, when seen stabled

at Tonbridge West Yard. The yard is usually graced with Class 73 Electro-diesels of the same company.

It is possibly stabled here for scrap EMU movements. David Glasspool

No. 66708 cruising over Horton Kirby Viaduct

In the Class 423 section, we saw No. 66708 hauling the 4 Vep units on a scrap move from Ramsgate

to Shoeburyness on 13th September 2005. Here we see the same locomotive again, but this time a

couple of days later, on 15th September 2005, taking 4 Vep units Nos. 3449, 3487 and 3564 over

Horton Kirby Viaduct in the rain. David Glasspool
