Extensive sidings still exist north of the station, which were laid during World War II. Overgrown and rusty, they are still regularly used by terminating freights and Network Rail test trains. Pink Class 31 No. 31601 was seen fronting one of these test formations in the sidings, stabled out of use. The formation was made up of two modified BR Mk 1 vehicles and a BR Mk 2 driving trailer, the latter of which was formerly in use on passenger services between Liverpool Street and Norwich. © David Glasspool
Engineering works over the weekend of 8th/9th November 2008 at Taunton saw Paddington to Plymouth and Penzance HST services run via Yeovil, and Cross Country services cease. Two ''Voyager'' sets were parked up in the sidings north of the station as a result. © David Glasspool
Just north of the level crossing, on the ''down'' side of the running lines, rolling stock sidings exist. These are generally used by terminating Waterloo services, but HST formations can also be seen stabled there in the dead of night. Class 159 No. 159108 is in evidence in the above photograph, stabled in what is known as ''New Yard''. © David Glasspool
