Folkestone Harbour

The Harbour Branch closure rumours had gathered momentum during 2006, but with continued uninterrupted use of the line throughout 2007, the end did not seem nigh. On 21st June 2007, Class 67 locomotives No. 67025 and ''Royal'' No. 67005 ''The Queen's Messenger'', were top-and-tailing the VSOE from Victoria. The check rail began immediately on reaching the platforms. The tight curvature of the platforms can be appreciated in this view, showing sparkling stock, but sadly, a decaying station. The ''up'' side track bed is seen returning to nature. Nos. 67005 and 67006 acquired their attractive claret liveries during Spring 2004, when they replaced Class 47s on hauling the Royal Train. © David Glasspool

The level crossing warning lights and alarm could be activated from the signal box, but the lifting barriers were no longer operational. As a consequence, the signalman simply draped bunting across the roadway. The ''up'' track had completely deteriorated, and the ''up'' signal was out of use, as indicated by the white cross. © David Glasspool
