A westward view from the ''down'' platform shows those CLASP structures built after the demolition of the original station building of 1858. On the right can be seen the end of the remaining goods yard sidings. In the background can be seen the lift shafts and footbridge from the 1932 works. Class 365 No. 365512 is seen forming a Victoria to Faversham service. © David Glasspool

Chatham station is 1½-miles distant to the west and between there and Gillingham, the line runs through two tunnels. These are ''Chatham'' and ''Gillingham'' Tunnels, 297-yards and 897-yards in length respectively. The bridge seen here carries the SR station building and road over the running lines. © David Glasspool

The sturdy signal box is again seen in a westward view, which also shows the remaining sidings and, to the right, the diverging Chatham Dockyard branch. External alterations to the signal box are apparent: a metal flight of stairs has replaced the timber construction seen in the 1958 view; the windows immediately below the roof line have been in-filled with planks; and an additional window has been installed to the right of the entrance door. © David Glasspool

A westward view shows Class 466 No. 466020 forming the end of a six-carriage formation in that platform generally used by terminating North Kent Line services. Although with simplified valance, the W-shaped outline of the SE&CR island canopy can still be picked out. Behind are the twin lift shafts and, behind these, the hipped roof of the ''high-level'' main building. © David Glasspool

In 1932, this building was completed at the western end of the layout. Straddling the tracks, it replaced the original ''down'' side house of 1858 as the main entrance, but the latter remained standing. In 2011, the 1932 building acquired a new glazed entrance. © David Glasspool
