Gravesend Central

At the time of this photograph, the station was still very much the pride of the North Kent line. The station retained original SER buildings of 1849 origin on both platforms, in addition to those later extensions made in the 1890s. © David Glasspool

Recently laid track is in evidence in this westward view of the station. On the right is Class 465 No. 465171, terminating with a stopping service from Charing Cross, via Sidcup. On the left is unit No. 465247, forming the rear of a semi-fast Charing Cross service, via Greenwich. The outer points lead to escape lanes. © David Glasspool

The ''down'' side building is just single-storey, but it demonstrates the same window design and stone lining as the ''up'' structure. By the time this picture was taken, the footbridge had received mesh fencing on its stairs. © David Glasspool

An eastward view shows the two platform lines returning to nature, but a recently laid ''down'' through track. Mesh fencing is in evidence either side of the footbridge, in-between the roof struts. The goods yard's former site is on the left, and that of the long gone bay platform on the right. The water tower base was at that time used as a store. © David Glasspool
