The new island is designated platform 1 and the original ''down'' side remains number ''2''. Platform 2, seen on the right of this westward view, was extended at its eastern end, although was not taken all the way to the bridge. The western end of platform 2 remains its previous length, but has been completely rebuilt to incorporate the new footbridge. © David Glasspool

Class 466035, with a Class 465 in tow, is seen arriving at platform 2 with a Charing Cross to Gillingham service. Formerly, this service used platform 1 of the previous layout in both ''up'' and ''down'' directions. © David Glasspool

Class 395 No. 395010 is seen arriving at the new platform 1 with a Faversham to St Pancras service. It is a pity the new canopy on today's platform 1 was not equipped with a timber valance, to be more in keeping with the existing structures. © David Glasspool
