The new station building had been completed by the time this picture was taken, but had yet to open. Work had started on redeveloping the site immediately behind the "up" platform, to make room for a lift shaft. © David Glasspool
Just two days later, the lift shafts had been erected on both platforms. These are to a similar design as those corrugated metal examples which appeared during the Dartford station rebuild of 1972 to 1973. © David Glasspool
The dual carriageway in the foreground was built in time for the Bluewater opening in March 1999. The original road can be seen passing under the narrow railway bridge left of centre. The mass of scaffolding is emerging from behind the "up" platform, where building work was underway to complete the lift shafts and provide new waiting accommodation. ©
