Horsted Keynes
Bluebell & Primrose Line
March 1986
The main station building was adorned with Southern Railway colours when viewed in 1986. The vertically-hung clay tiling covering the upper storey dates from around 1910; that tiling within the pitched roof sections has been in existence since the station's opening in 1882. © Mike Glasspool

In the background can be seen the Mobile Fire Train, once a regular sight at Horsted Keynes. It was formed of ex-LSWR Third Brake coach No. 1520, of 1910 origin, and one of a couple of water tank wagons at the site. ''Q'' Class 0-6-0 No. 541, completed at Eastleigh Works in 1939, is seen terminating with a service; the station was at this time the northern limit of operation, services to Kingscote being a decade away. © David Glasspool

Our old friend, No. 55 ''Stepney'', is seen stabled upon the dock line at the southern end of the station, alongside what had become the coal dump. The exposed carriage works sidings on the left finally received cover in 2000, on the completion of a timber extension in September of that year. © Mike Glasspool
