A southward view shows extensive sidings on the ''up'' side, which were once a feature of the site in LB&SCR days. They were at one time used by that company as a locomotive dump. On this day, a Bulleid Pacific and two BR Standard engines could be found, amongst a plethora of tarpaulin-covered vehicles. © David Glasspool

The Ardingly spur can be seen branching off to the right in this southward view; this currently serves as an elongated rolling stock siding. On the left is the end of the carriage repair shed, which requires a headshunt manoeuvre to access. © David Glasspool

Grass has for long been an unusual feature of this station's ''up'' island. Building of the new ''up'' side canopy and offices was spread over a period between 1992 and 2004. © David Glasspool
