London Blackfriars

This internal view of the terminating platforms shows where the original trainshed ends and the

1977 concourse starts. This position is marked by the ''1'' and ''2'' signs on the upper girder. The

original part of the station at least still has echoes of the past, which makes it even more of a shame

that it is planned to remove it. David Glasspool

The destination indicator boards were installed at the station in about 1999. The pitches of the

roofs here are now covered with opaque corrugated metal, whilst the lower sides of the slopes

are instead adorned by corrugated transparent plastic. It was the roof pitches which were formerly

glazed, being slightly raised to provide ventilation. David Glasspool

This southward view on 21st January 2006 reveals the former South Bank pier support of the

original Blackfriars railway bridge, the two LC&DR crests standing prominent. On the left-hand

side of the current bridge are EMU stabling sidings, a Class 465 in evidence in this view.
