A southward view across the chalk pit reveals Church Path Pit CTRL sidings, the Ebbsfleet connection with the "down" track of the North Kent Line and, in the foreground, redundant points of the former cement works' loop line. © David Glasspool
A northward view shows the cement works in the background and, in the foreground, the chalk face which formerly accommodated one of the tunnel portals. Although this has now been blocked off, it can still be seen in this view, emerging from the undergrowth, just left of centre. © David Glasspool
We have now moved north of the main road and have reached the cement complex. In the background of this eastward view, one of the original Bevan Works' Tunnel portals can be seen. © David Glasspool
A close-up view confirms that the former Bevan Works' tunnel is a single-track affair, which once accommodated the original steam-worked railway system through to the southern chalk pit. The triangular strut of one of two British Rail tunnel portals of 1970 can be seen emerging from the right. © David Glasspool
