A westward view from the site's eastern side reveals the British Rail tunnel portal, part of which was seen in the previous picture. As shown, it had been blocked by a pile of chalk deposits at this time. © David Glasspool
This general westward view across the cement works on 19th July 2007 reveals a huge coal deposit area in the foreground. The rusty-coloured tube on the left is one of the site's two operational kilns, measuring some six metres in diameter. The railway formerly ran along the site behind the yellow JCB vehicle. © David Glasspool
These chimneys dominated the Northfleet skyline for four decades, but with the works' closure, they were finally demolished with explosives on 27th April 2010. © David Glasspool
End of an era: the two chimneys are seen crashing to the ground in spectacular style. After hitting the ground, the pair disintegrated, leaving no recognisable trace of them. © David Glasspool
