This Southern Railway sign could once be found beyond the northern end of platform 6, attached to the bridge carrying London Road over the running lines. There was an equivalent warning sign on the opposite side of the layout, where the track for platform Nos. 1 and 2 entered the bridge, which can just be seen in the last picture on the previous page. © Al Dykes
4 VEP No. 7872 is seen entering platform 4 (soon to be renumbered "3") with a terminating service from Charing Cross. The colour aspect lights dated from re-signalling in 1962. © Al Dykes
The V-shaped platform canopies in this northward view, which were installed by the SR as part of the suburban electrification scheme completed in 1935, were the only platform structures to survive the rebuilding. The footbridge of the same vintage had lost its roof between platform Nos. 1 and 2 just days before this photograph was taken. On the left can be seen the new edging and surfacing taking shape of the existing, but closed, platform 2, this of which would eventually re-open as platform 1. © Al Dykes
