Shortlands

On 25th July 2007, Class 373 No. 3221 was seen passing through Shortlands, trailing behind sister unit

No. 3222. To prepare for the opening of the CTRL (Phase 1) in 2003, the flat junction at Shortlands was

remodelled. This included installing a double-track underpass linking the ''Chatham'' main line and the

Catford Loop. Thus, this reduced the possibility of train movement conflicts between the two lines.

The architecture at platform level is that which the LC&DR standardised among a number of sites, including

Bromley and Bickley. This London-bound view from 25th July 2007 reveals the crème brick platform offices

and the pitched roof canopies, the latter of which have succumbed to being clad with corrugated metal.

Class 375 No. 375706 is observed speeding through Shortlands on the ''up'' fast line, with a second of

the class in tow. Being sandwiched between the fast lines, platforms 3 and 4 see much less action than

platforms 1 and 2. David Glasspool
