Southfleet & Springhead

A second Gravesend-bound view this time shows the sole facing crossover which was present within the passing loop formation. Behind the camera, the site of the platform was no more than an overgrown mound of earth, and the double staircase down from the road bridge was long gone. © Terry

This gantry emerged from the vegetation at the northern end of the layout, nearing the A2. A similar example existed at the southern end of the site, just beyond the road over bridge, where the run-a-round loop formation converged to single-track. It is suspected that these were either signal or lighting gantries. The track here continued north of the station site, and terminated just over the other side of the bridge crossing the A2. It was here that a heavy steel gate was erected, but the photographer notes that this was not secure for long. © Terry

This final 1980s view depicts the track south of the station site, in the vicinity of Southfleet Church. This section had been cleared a few years previously by the North Downs Steam Railway Preservation Society, as part of a rescue attempt of the route begun in 1980. © Terry
