Track Bed Remnants

We are now in the thick of the cutting, heading northeast. On the right-hand side, numerous concrete posts are still in evidence, these formerly carrying signalling cable. The track along this section of route was lifted in 1987 for reuse on the Kent & East Sussex Railway. © David Glasspool

Across the track bed here still exists a splendid triple-arch bridge, which today carries a dedicated road for construction traffic heading to a new housing estate. This is a southward view, looking back towards the A2 over the ground already covered on the footpath. © David Glasspool

The track bed is briefly intercepted about a third of a mile in by a road when heading north, but it nevertheless continues in similarly rural fashion on the other side. Note the still extant rail emerging through the vegetation in this Thames-bound view. © David Glasspool
