Victoria to Weymouth

4th June 2005

Shortly after our arrival, ''Wessex Electric'' No. 2409 trundled in to platform 2. This class of unit has found a

new home on Central Division lines. David Glasspool

Now in the town, the former Weymouth Quay station is observed, still complete with double-track formation

alongside. As can just be seen, a tall fence has been erected half way down the platform face. Closed to regular

traffic in 1987, a summer Wednesdays-only service was run in 1993, using Class 37 diesels and BR Mk 2 stock.

No sign of our excursion stock, just ''Wessex Electric'' No. 2403 sitting in silence in platform 2. As mentioned

in the main text, we were told at this point that the steam engine had not even reached Yeovil. Passengers were

therefore given the option of using No. 2403 to get back to London, excursion tickets being valid. This was the

18:00 service to Waterloo. David Glasspool
